Philosophy of work and strengths

  • FAR is not looking for a protagonist roll in the task of conserving the biological and cultural diversity of the Amazon. FAR looks for promoting the mechanisms (projects and actions) able to make this task happen, when interrelating in a reciprocal way its strategic alliances and to the actors of the field.

  • FAR focuses its energy, resources and total dedication, to find real solutions to the environmental and cultural crisis of the Peruvian.Amazon.

  • Understanding the complexity in the field of conservationism, to represent a viable alternative in a social context of extreme poverty, and in front of an increasing corporative pressure over the natural resources able to transform the biological diversity into economic productivity, we present programs and projects with a solid scientific and social base, able to contribute substantially to change the attitude of land use into a sustainable one, whose goal consists in gaining the reciprocity between the society and its environment in a real way.

  • We measure our working progresses by summarizing our activity’s goals. Nevertheless, we believe in the capacity to extend these initial advances into Amazonian development models, based on the sustainability.

  • FAR’s commitment is reflected in an environmental and social basis, in science, social and cultural reach (alcances), science based estrategy in, reaches, in strategic alliances and concrete actions. These are the components necessary to resist the threats to the loss of the biodiversity.

  • Since the beginning the associate and members of FAR, we found a way to fight against the extinction of the species, land, water, and the cultural values, by focusing in protecting great extensions of Amazonian land, assuring its sustainable management and the welfare of the local people involved in the process. In the following lines we present some successful advances in the protection of the biodiversity that FAR and its strategic alliances a able to make real:

  • Shihuahuaco’ Conservation Concession (a area designated to protect 500 hectares of Mauritia Palm swaps and Shihuahuaco forests.

  • The PRAAMAD Reforestation Concession (an area of 1700 hectares with forests of Brazilian Nut Trees and Shihuahuaco trees).

  • Reforestation Concessions of Las Piedras River (an area of 10000 hectares of Amazonian rainforests that FAR can manage and conserve with the development of its projects).

  • For each area we have designed projects able to allow their sustainable management, and the welfare of the local people involved in the process. We suggest you to read the programs and projects in the next pages.

  • At the beginning, our work includes to develop the activities in the forest of Madre De Dios, the southeastern region of the Peruvian Amazon.

  • We believe that in order to obtain permanent changes in the relation society - environment, the inhabitants of the forest should find real benefits (economic and welfare) when being directly involved in the biodiversity’s management and conservation.

  • FAR is integrated by people who live in the Amazon, who worked in many different regional activities to understand how to design real alternatives for sustainable development. From here, we interact in good relationships with the civil society of the city and the field, with local governments and institutions.
